Journal of Applied Statistics provides a forum for communication between both applied statisticians and users of applied statistical techniques across a wide range of disciplines. These areas include business, computing, economics, ecology, education, management, medicine, operational research and sociology, but papers from other areas are also considered. The editorial policy is to publish rigorous but clear and accessible papers on applied techniques. Purely theoretical papers are avoided but those on theoretical developments which clearly demonstrate significant applied potential are welcomed. Each paper is submitted to at least two independent referees.
Types of papers include: Application Note. A typical Application Note for this journal should be no more than 15 manuscript pages.
Introduction: Please present one or two data challenges in an area, and include relevant data in the Introduction section. These two components, data challenge and relevant data, can be in this one section or divided into two or more subsections within this Introduction section.
Methodology or Approach: Present your innovative idea of using modified or existing methods to solve the challenge(s) in this or more sections. Demonstrate that the proposed approach can solve the presented data challenges.
Routine applications of standard statistical methods to some data are not suitable as an Application Note paper in JAS.
Application of your Methodology: Present application of your approach to solve the data challenges presented in your Introduction in this or more sections. Demonstrate that your approach has generated convincing findings in the content area from which the data were drawn. Also note: Simulation studies can be presented as a sub-section in this section or in a new standalone section.
