Journal of Ecology includes original research papers on all aspects of the ecology of plants (including algae), in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. We are happy to consider studies of plant communities, populations or individual species, and studies of the interactions between plants and organisms such as animals, fungi or bacteria, providing that the focus is towards the ecology of the plants. Experimental papers may use any ecological approach, including molecular and more traditional techniques. Theoretical papers are welcome, as are descriptive or historical accounts that offer insights into issues of general interest to ecologists, but reports concerned solely with cultivated plants and agricultural ecosystems are not. Purely descriptive accounts are now only rarely accepted.
